History of Gray Matters Gallery / Dallas, Texas

1989 / David Szafranski and Vance Wingate move to 113 N. Haskell Ave.,  Dallas, TX 75226. Both are members of 500X gallery and recently had been in the graduate program at UNT.
1991 / Summer the gallery was built, and shows planned for September 14, 1991.
     The first show featured many artists who came with David and Vance from 500X to Gray Matters Gallery.
1992 / Vance Wingate moves to Seattle to work for Half Price Books, Inc. in September 1992.
David Szafranski continues to operate Gray Matters Gallery on his own.
1996 / In July 1996, Vance Wingate returned from Seattle to continue operating Gray Matters Gallery. David and his wife Trish Nickell move to France.
 Gray Matters has a hiatus in 2000 and 2001, due to outside work influences.
2002 / Gray Matters Gallery reopens in January 2002.
  In August 2005 Gray Matters Gallery closes due to Vance Wingate going back to work and going to graduate school at SMU.
2006-2008 / various small shows done through Gray Matters Gallery.
No shows 2009 – 2011 / Vance Wingate working at Texas Woman’s University.
2012 - 2015 / Gray Matters Gallery reopens as a curatorial workshop, with invited curators, artists and others putting together exhibitions of work that may not be able to be shown at more traditional outlets.
